Initiatives for Occupational Safety and Health

Risk Analysis, Identification, and Measures

Safety patrol with President Kojima, while taking measures for living with the COVID-19 pandemic

We have introduced risk assessments in our safety and health management.

We are also urging each construction site to create and follow a safety and health work procedures manual. We have had some serious fall accidents occur in recent years, which has led us set the elimination of fall accidents and injuries as a priority policy. Using the safety and health work procedures manual, ensuring that business owners are carrying out thorough safety and health management activities, and raising the level of safety awareness are some of the measures we are implementing.

Our on-site patrol team evaluates the activities for the priority goal of strengthening safety and health. We also carry out the planning and management of company-wide measures to ensure safety, and assess the on-site management situation and provide guidance and summaries.

Additionally, we are striving to raise awareness of safety and health activities through the annual Company-wide Safety and Health Conference, which is held each spring.

Cooperation with Partner Companies

In 2003 we organized the Kowakai of partner companies, to enhance cooperation with our partner companies working together on the construction sites. The Kowakai aims to communicate the Company’s policies and directions on cost, quality, on-time delivery, safety and health, environmental conservation and other areas, and to ensure they are thoroughly implemented.

The Kowakai consists of the headquarters and branches, each of which has its own Health and Safety Cooperation Committee to communicate information on safety and health technologies, PR activities, and make well known the relevant laws. Each of the branches implement activities to improve health and safety, including the Branch Office Health and Safety Convention.

Kowakai also operates the TKCS-s (Takasago Kowakai Communication Systems-safety), which is an online system for safety improvement and to share safety information.

Safety Records by Year and Efforts to Eliminate Accidents

Safety records by year: Frequency rate and intensity ratio in the past 5 years (%)

In FY2021, 33 accidents (three lost-time injuries and 30 non-lost-time injuries) occurred. Although we achieved our goal for the safety target’s frequency rate, we did not achieve the intensity ratio target.
Particularly for the accidents leading to lost-time injuries, we will thoroughly analyze the causes of these accidents and incorporate recurrence prevention measures into the Safety and Health Activities Policy, and continue our efforts to realize zero accidents.
