About the Takasago Thermal Engineering Innovation Center
Takasago Thermal Engineering
Innovation Center
The Takasago Thermal Engineering Innovation Center is a research facility designed to embody the concept of sustainable architecture that combines environmental impact reduction with intellectual productivity improvement.
By combining solar power generation and biomass energy as well as groundwater heat utilization and storage batteries, we are achieving carbon neutrality in the suburbs. The entire property has achieved ZEB Ready, and the office building has achieved ZEB status (as of FY2022) (*ZEB status).
For the office space, we introduced the concept of activity-based working (ABW) to give employees the freedom to choose where and when they work in line with their preferences and the work they are doing. Accordingly, we provide many different types of office space and human-centric air conditioning and lighting systems that can be customized to personal preferences. The office space is designed to be comfortable and enhance intellectual productivity.
The Multipurpose Hall and conference rooms in the Office Building, an interactive museum where visitors can learn about air, and the green space on the property are all open to the community. With atrium space and a building design conducive to walking, we aim to be a facility that fosters collaboration with a diverse range of people while facilitating coexistence with the local community.
As a place to demonstrate new environmental technologies, the facility is operated with a view toward providing feedback to society and will also generate open innovation through connections with the local community and people outside the Company.
Areas of the Takasago Thermal Engineering Innovation Center
The facility comprises an Office Building consisting of areas for offices and conference rooms, a Lab Building where demonstration experiments are conducted, and, between them, an Exhibition Area that includes an Equipment Exhibition Building and other facilities.
Office Building
1st Floor
The Multipurpose Hall and café/restaurant are open to the community. The building also has conference and reception rooms with different atmospheres.
2nd Floor
We have incorporated the concept of activity-based working (ABW) and established diverse spaces for individual work and collaborative creation with people outside the Company. We have developed and introduced the latest air conditioning systems—for example, radiant panels on the ceiling and personal air conditioning—to create an indoor environment that promotes wellness and is tailored to individuals while reducing energy consumption.
Exhibition Area
The Exhibition Area provides interactive learning opportunities for children—the innovators of the future—to learn about the history, roles, and future of air conditioning systems. Visitors get an up-close view of air conditioning equipment that is normally behind closed doors.

The Lab Building features large demonstration spaces, laboratories, and spaces for collaborative creation.
Initiatives and Research Facilities for Carbon Neutrality
By combining energy conservation, energy creation, and energy storage, we are building a system for balancing sustainable energy supply and demand with a view to going off-grid. We have developed an energy management system that uses natural lighting and ventilation and groundwater heat and optimizes the operation of a biomass system as a base power source, solar panels to help meet daytime electricity demand, and storage batteries to ensure a stable balance between electricity supply and demand. We not only grow Erianthus spp. on the property to fuel the biomass steam boilers, but we also have an Algae Pond Building for algae research.
Environmental Performance of the Building Evaluated
As an energy-independent, sustainable research facility, the Takasago Thermal Engineering Innovation Center ensures high environmental performance.* The building received a BELS rating of five stars (the highest) and Nearly ZEB certification for energy-saving performance, Gold certification under LEED® for overall environmental performance, and S rank certification of CASBEE-Wellness Office for comfort and health.
